1. Purpose
This policy outlines how NZ Tutoring will ensure a safe and healthy working and learning environment for all staff, tutors, students, and visitors to NZ Tutoring, adhering to the requirements of the Health and Safety at Work Act 2015.
2. Scope
This policy applies to all activities undertaken by NZ Tutoring, including, but not limited to:

Workplace operations (classrooms, reception, common areas).

Trips, excursions, or events organized or sponsored by the school.

Any external contractors or volunteers involved in operations of the tutoring school.
3. Responsibilities

Business Owner/Director/Manager:

Responsible for creating and maintaining a safe environment and providing resources.

Developing and implementing this Health and Safety Policy.
-
Monitoring and reviewing the policy and procedures regularly.

Staff and Tutors:
-
Work safely and follow health and safety procedures.
-
Identify and report hazards or unsafe conditions.
-
Participate in health and safety training.
-

Students:
-
Follow health and safety instructions.
-
Act responsibly to protect their own safety and that of others.

4. Key Health and Safety Issues

Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment:
We will conduct regular hazard identification and risk assessments to identify potential risks and implement appropriate controls. -
Emergency Procedures:

Establish clear emergency procedures, including fire evacuation plans, first aid protocols, and contact information for emergency services.

Regularly conduct drills and updates on emergency procedures.

First Aid:
-
Ensure readily available first aid supplies and trained personnel.

Have procedures in place to handle medical emergencies.

Workplace Safety:

Maintain a clean and organized working environment.

Ensure adequate lighting and ventilation.

Address any workplace hazards or concerns promptly.

Student Safety:

Provide a safe and supportive learning environment for students.

Address student behaviour that compromises health and safety.

Have staff with adequate qualifications and relevant experience

Conduct background checks on staff and tutors

Training and Supervision:

Provide appropriate training to staff and tutors on health and safety matters.

Ensure adequate supervision of students during tutoring sessions and activities.

Contractor Safety:

Ensure that any external contractor that is involved with the tutoring school complies with all relevant safety requirements of the health and safety act 2015.

Workplace Violence:
-
Establish clear policies and procedures for addressing and reporting workplace violence or bullying incidents.

Provide support and resources to employees who have been victims of such incidents.

5. Policy Review

This policy will be reviewed regularly, at least annually, or more frequently if necessary, to ensure it remains effective and relevant.
6. Communication

This policy will be communicated to all staff, tutors, students, and relevant stakeholders.

Post-and-flyer will be used to ensure the policy is visible and accessible to all.

Regular meetings will be held to discuss health and safety matters.

7. Relevant Legislation
The Health and Safety at Work Act 2015 and Other relevant workplace regulations.
8. Updates to this Health and Safety Policy
NZ Tutoring may, from time to time, review and update this Health and Safety Policy, including taking into account new laws, regulations, practices and technology.
